Like in my Ask This Old House post, there is a very good chance I will not be back to encode/upload any new Ask This Old House or This Old House episodes when they come back next season. Also, when this season of The New Yankee Workshop is done broadcasting I will not be encoding/uploading anymore episodes of that series.

This Old House Episodes 29x01 to 29x08

This Old House season 29 will also be uploaded from now on. However, due to time constraints, this will be uploaded once every two months. This should make things much easier for me. I have noticed that a TV-Scene group has been doing encodes of The This Old House Hour, I recommend going for those for speedy releases.

You might have noticed by now that the video resolution is different from time to time. The reason for that is the broadcast I get. If I manage to get a good HD broadcast, the resolution will be 656x368. If I could only get a sub-channel, or SD recording, then the resolution will be 576x320. There's more to that, but I don't want to bore you with the details. The HD recording can be pretty rare to get, so don't expect it as often.

The new video at newyankee.com says that Norm Abram is retiring and that they plan on streaming episodes at the site. I think when that happens I'll take down these New Yankee Workshop posts since you should be able watch full episodes there. Plus, actual DVDs exist, unlike the other seasons of "Ask This Old House" (season 1 is an exception).

Only two episodes of season 21 of The New Yankee Workshop, or season 9 with new introductions by Norm Abram. I have a few more episodes from this season, but they have audio errors I'm not happy with. This was before I used the mix-and-match method to get error free video files.

Not a big loss since the DVDs can be bought at the official website, along with measured drawings, if available.

Ask This Old House 7x01

I've uploaded the first episode of season 7 for Ask This Old House. Links will be at the bottom of the post, along with subtitles. One thing I forgot to mention in my introduction was that a good chunk of these episodes were captured using the subchannels from a local PBS station. For those who don't know what a subchannel is, it's basically like an extra channel for a station. Let's say a channel 8.1 (or 8-1) is on your television, then a subchannel would be 8.2 (or 8-2). You can read more about it from this Wikipedia article.

The subchannels usually are not in HD, so the visual quality isn't all that great, and it can be a little blurry.

I checked my encodes, and episodes 7x02 to 7x08 are the ones with digital errors. I'm not sure if I should upload them as is, or wait until they broadcast again so I can re-do them.

The encodes use the XviD codec with MP3 audio in .AVI format. The subtitles are actually the closed captioning converted to .SRT format thanks to CCExtractor. If you need help playing these files and viewing the subtitles, feel free to make a comment asking for help. I might end up making another Blog post on how to deal with all these files or just linking to better guides.

You're going to also see the MD5 Checksums for the files, you can use MD5summer to check them. MD5 checksums are like the fingerprint of a file, it can be used to make sure your copy is not corrupt.

DIY TV Fan

Hi, this is my foray into the blog scene with uploading episodes to TV shows. Hopefully, it will go well. Future posts will have Megaupload links to two shows, "Ask This Old House" and "New Yankee Workshop".

A few episodes from both series will have some errors in it due to antenna problems and the closed captioning might be off sync. That was when I first started doing encodes and couldn't figure out a good solution. I have a better solution now, so after those first batch of episodes with errors the rest should be good and in sync.
